Abstract

Electric resistance welded (ERW) tubes have been widely used in various industrial application. Demand for high strength and quality, reliability tubes are required for structural parts of automobiles. The basic factors that affect the drawing process are drawing load, friction and residual stresses. In order to reduce drawing load and residual stresses drawing parameter like die angle, die land length will be varied till the most optimal values are arrived. The objective of this study was to develop the design and manufacturing of die in order to reduce drawing load and residual stresses. Solid works is used for Modelling the tube & die geometry. Hyper mesh is used for creating the finite element modelling & LsDyna for Explicit dynamics FEA. The results between experiment & Simulation are compared.
