Abstract
Seat’s thermal perception plays a vital role in determining the passenger comfort in a car. Genuine leather is known for good seat comfort and soft feel, but not affordable in all cars. So as a cost efficient solution, PVC leatherette can meet functional requirements and is close to leather like feel and haptics. In this paper, Phase Change Materials was used in PVC coating to achieve thermal comfort in PVC coated fabrics which could be used as automotive seat cover. PCMs used in this coating are in the form of microcapsules. PCM is capable of changing its physical state from solid to liquid state and liquid to solid state. During this phase change, PCM absorbs, stores and releases heat energy.
