Abstract

Tailor welded blank (TWB) is the welded sheet of two or more sheet metals of different thickness and different strength & material composition. During stamping operation the weld line movement occurs and formability issues like splits, wrinkles are observed at the weld zone. It’s challenging to get the weld line in its designed position. The TWB part produced through a draw die has a single blank holder and constant blank holder force. The primary objective of this paper, is to study draw operation with multiple blank holder and variable blank holding forces (VBHFs). Different blank holding force at different thickness of blank will help to control material flow during stamping. To investigate this study a rectangular box shape drawn part, math model is prepared with weld line at center and at diagonally. It was observed from the computational analysis, that with the help of multiple blank holder and VBHFs, weld line movement is minimal. Formability issues at weld line zone are reduced as well
