Abstract

Assembly system architecture and subsystems in Powertrain manufacturing are most key area in today’s world class industry. In this paper we present “Flexible Assembly Architecture” to adapt and enhance productivity of powertrain plants, and discussed it at a length. Accommodate dynamic balancing of production lines and on the fly process changes at powertrain assembly requires significant amount of resources. This dynamic change is costly, request for additional time and adds human errors during implementation. To sum up, traditional assembly architecture does not support lean, quick and easy transformation of system to achieve quick change for line balancing. Implementation, software and hardware information with an example of monitoring and reporting during commissioning state of the project is presented in this paper. Example study presented in this paper demonstrated effectiveness of the flexible assembly architecture. Line balancing activity was identified and implemented for achieving desired cycle time for the process line. The paper presents a flexible, reconfigurable and lean architecture for powertrain assembly.
