Abstract
The advent of the 21st century has witnessed a phenomenal change in the evolution of faster and more efficient communication networks to support factory floor manufacturing operations. Ethernet technology offers tremendous advantages over DeviceNet, and has been a popular network protocol for quite a while now. The primary objective of this paper is to outline the migration from a DeviceNet architecture to an Ethernet network for an automotive body shop. It also evaluates the challenges to be overcome for this migration.
