Abstract
A systems engineering approach has been used for simulation model development. A complex high fidelity simulation model of the conventional vehicle has been developed consisting of various sub-systems. Multiple electric architectures are conceptualized based on specific needs for off highway vehicles which require the vehicle to undergo composite duty cycles, manage multiple simultaneous operations and handle harsh environmental conditions. An analysis driven model based system simulation approach is chosen to evaluate different architecture since it is easy in virtual environment to update component configurations. Each concept is evaluated at composite duty cycles and operating environments that typical off-road vehicle undergoes. An optimal electric architecture is chosen based on performance, cost and design tradeoff. The model is further leveraged to tune the operating regimes of electric components in the vehicle architectures.
