Abstract
In this paper a robust, reliable and a cost effective heart rate monitoring system is discussed. The system uses the heart rate variability concept along with infra-red technology for determining the heart rate of the driver in real time. With the help of inbuilt health diagnostic facility on the steering wheel, the irregular heart rate is not only determined and notified to the driver but also can provides preventive action to resume the erratic heart rates to normal levels.
