Abstract

FMVSS 225 Child Restraint Anchorage System has load capacity and displacement requirements for the lower anchorage forward pull and lateral pull. Conventional approach of using physical prototypes for validation is costly and use of simulation software can drastically reduce the cost. In order to accomplish this, it is important to understand the impact of input variables on performance metrics. This paper, presents the work to determine the impact of input parameters on FMVSS225 CAE simulation using Quasi-static runs on LS-Dyna explicit, which helps in developing a reliable design. Impact of all the input parameters are investigated and clearly indicate the most influential input parameters which contribute to output variations. This helps to control the relevant input parameters which helps in reducing the output variation thus achieving improved success rate in a single physical test. This approach can be extended for studying influence of input parameters on similar load cases leading to more reliable designs.
