Abstract

The existing automotive network technologies include Controller Area Network (CAN), Local Interconnect Network (LIN), FlexRay, Low-Voltage Differential Signaling (LVDS) and Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST). As the number of in-vehicle electronic devices, electronic control units (ECUs) and sensors continuously increases, the demand for high-speed and high-bandwidth networking technology will increase significantly. In order to make driving safer and more comfortable as well as supports autonomous driving in the future, many carmakers and automotive suppliers join together to set up the alliance of OPEN (One-Pair Ether-Net) Alliance and AVnu Alliance which promote the automotive Ethernet technology standards. The weight of cables is one challenge for connecting the on-board electronic devices. Therefore, the unshielded twisted pair cable (UTP) will be used because it offers the lightweight, cost-effective and easy cable-laying. The latency is another challenge for the communication of on-board electronic devices. The study aims to develop an in-vehicle infotainment system template to adopt the advantages of both MOST and automotive Ethernet to fulfil the electromagnetic compatibility requirements, achieve the low latency and high data transmission rate.
