Abstract

Creep groan is a low frequency self-excited brake vibration, typically less than 200 Hz, whose generation process is the result of a stick-slip intermittent motion at the friction interface. This local and incipient vibration, triggered between the brake couple, is transmitted through the chassis and exponentially amplified, by means of a feedback loop, till reaching the occupants of the vehicle —also in the form of noise. This paper presents a numerical methodology to tackle the existing interaction between the low-level stick-slip, found at brake level, and the subsequent high amplitude harmonic response experienced by the vehicle.
