Abstract

Wear is one of the most important features of a friction material. One of the biggest difficulties to evaluate brake pad wear is the necessity of choosing the correct test procedure out of the numerous wear test procedures available. The other problem is that we cannot predict how the same material will behave in different brake systems because of: brake pads different dimensions, shapes and other vehicle data. The aim of this work is to evaluate the correctness of a mathematical model which is trying to overcome this limitation.
By using described model we will try to prove that in certain conditions wear of friction material is the same in different brake systems. Therefore we can predict wear of friction material in another caliper even using different test data. The next step would be the evaluation to see if a pad is suitable for a certain vehicle application or not. Going further this model can be used even for the prediction of the mileage that brake pad brake pad will do on the vehicle - if we exactly know how it is used
