ABSTRACT

To solve disc brake squeal problems a mode shape based method is used. An operating deflection shape measured on a dyno station with a laser scanning vibrometer system is compared to a complex eigenvalue analysis performed by using the finite element method. The comparison between the laser measured operating deflection shape and its calculated counterpart is performed with the modal assurance criterion (MAC).The self excited mode is decomposed to its underlying natural modes. These natural modes form the basis for the countermeasure development. The numerically derived countermeasure is validated by hardware testing.
