ABSTRACT Particle emissions originating from the wear of brakes, one of the main sources to non-exhaust emissions in the urban areas of Europe, are not currently regulated. To prepare for future standardized test procedures, a novel design of a dyno bench that allow control of the cleanness of the air surrounding the brake assembly and assure isokinetic sampling of the generated particles has been developed. To evaluate the novel design of the dyno bench, the results from the test were compared with results from one test with the old design. The results implies that this test stand can be proposed as a standard test stand to objectively asses the urban emissions of airborne brake particles in future legislation.
