ABSTRACT
This study has been performed to investigate the influence of the brake duct shape on the brake cooling process and to optimize the brake duct design. The CFD simulations and optimizing method are used to improve the cooling performance in comparison with experimental data. The boundary conditions in simulation & optimization were chosen to focus on convective heat transfer which is a major heat path on brake system. Therefore, the simulations took the rotation of the wheel and brake rotor into consideration. Optimization has been conducted by changing design parameters which are the geometry of the inlet, the outlet and the middle section. This study will propose the optimal brake duct design and effectively support thermal development of brake systems in the early design stages.
