ABSTRACT - Managing freight trains fleet, optimizing operating costs and improving performance and productivity are permanent challenges. In order to face such challenges, since 2005, Freinrail Systèmes Ferroviaires has been developing End of Train Equipment. This technological innovation improves freight train performance. It is a support tool for freight operating conditions and braking performance improvement. It is directly connected to train brake pipe (BP) of the last wagon, replacing the standard tail light and complies with national regulations. Braking performance is improved by quicker brake application. The device allows venting the End of Train brake pipe by self-adjusting with train length and with brake demand requested by the driver. Braking assistance is performed via the built-in pneumatic module. In addition, such device has a failsafe action on the train brake pipe without needing radio communication and according to fully redundant process via a built-in electro pneumatic module.
