Abstract
The wear of brake pads is investigated by a new noncontact wear measurement device. The procedure of wear measurement is fully controlled by PC. This improves the work efficiency and minimizes operative errors. Coupling this device with the IDS High Load Tribometer makes it possible to investigate wear in the realistic brake scenarios, but also under special conditions as constant normal load or constant velocity. First results show that wear is nearly proportional to friction work and inversely proportional to the shear strength. Main aim of these investigations is material dependent wear information.
