This paper presents an accurate analytical method for the determining the elastic characteristic and the stiffness of a swing axle suspension of an automobile. By means of a numerical exemplification it is shown that and in the case of a linear characteristic of the elastic element the suspension elastic characteristic is non-linear. Also, it is proved that the usual known methods for the calculating the stiffness of this suspension type lead to the values which differ from the actual values.
