Abstract

Keywords: rear-end collision, partially restitution coefficient, energy dissipation

This paper presents a mathematical model for rear-end collision based on the previously knowledge of the stiffness coefficient. The authors describe in detail the mathematically base for the introduction of a new parameter called partially restitution coefficient and the possibilities to use it to appreciate the rear-end collision kinetic energy dissipation efficiency. This paper also describes some possible application of the rear-end collision model such as: velocities reduction after collision, reduced decelerations with favorable consequences about passenger’s safety, partially dissipation of impact energy in tire-road friction, reduction or fully elimination of residual vehicle body deformations.
