The paper presents the experimental results obtained concerning performances and pollution of a diesel engine fuelled with biodiesel resulted from transesterificated used vegetable oil with methanol in the presence of acid catalyst compared with diesel fuel in laboratory tests. The main properties of the researched fuels are presented within this paper, in comparison with classical diesel fuel (density, kinematic viscosity, water content, lower heating value). Engines’ performances were evaluated by determining the variation curves in terms of engine speed and the following: effective engine torque, effective power output fuel consumption per hour, specific effective fuel consumption, smoke, CO2, CO and CmHn. An reducing effective engine torque, effective power output, smoke, CO2, CO and CmHn has been observed, increasing of specific fuel consumption.
