Abstract

WLIP was a project developed by Agfra and Technological Institute AIDO with Tenneco Valencia Plant collaboration. WLIP is the first robotic cell that combines dimensional metrology and online detection for the automotive sector.

Currently most of automotive sector production plants are using dimensional control systems and detect detection, (CMM, laser systems, gauges..) to measure and verify the different components of the vehicles in the production chain. However these inspections systems require expensive installations, specialized labour, and inspection times are high, making impossible to inspect 100% of the production.

To go a step further in the optimization of this process, Agfra and its partners developed WLIP, an innovative automated system that allows a 3D dimensional control and defect detection of automotive parts.

The system is based on 3D scanning by structured white light, which allows the massive capture of points (up to 2.000.000 points per sample) in very low times (0.3 sec). This allows to obtain a global model to inspect areas able to generate dimensional information comparable with CAD production models.
