Abstract

eMoTria means Electric Mobility in Three wheels.

An innovative concept in light electric vehicles for urban areas is unveiled with eMoTria. Its body features both style and modularity for a high level of usability and accessibility. The same vehicle can be converted in a minute from a leisure or personal transportation vehicle into a safe delivery micro van.

Thanks to its three wheels and easy driving, eMoTria it is a sustainable option for people who do not feel confident in two wheels. Unexperienced young, elder, heavy or handicapped drivers, as seen in figure 1, were taken into account as potential users through all the development process, even when eMoTria is not a PMR scooter.

Any city can benefit from eMoTria, even if the city has not recharging stations. Its quick-change-battery-rack accepts any kind of battery adapting the vehicle to the range and use needs, including 24/7 services. Its quick-body-change-system(1) allows conversion from a 2 passenger scooter to a safe cargo microvan with 125 kg/400 dm3 capacity, as seen in Figure 2.

Unique in its kind, a vehicle designed for rental systems, for business models on going or new to come, based on shared renting and intensive use of assets. Its front drive, three-phase wheel- motor and the electronic connection box minimises maintenance and lifecycle cost.

Quick-change rear vertical panel eases lowcost business models, based on dynamic advertisement. The concept prototype was introduced in Barcelona’s Motor Show 2009 and was distinguished by the Award jury.

eMoTriaTM has been born as a fully electric vehicle from a blank sheet. The entrepreneur founded a micro-SME to promote the project. The concept however, is based on over 20 years of research and professional experience in the automotive and transportation industry.

The industrial production model aims to a medium size series, based in cluster networked production, using industrial capacity, minimising investments and easing business internationalization. Prototype, component and system suppliers from different European countries garantee highest industry's standards and vehicle handling.
