Abstract

In order to support development of HCCI engines, a fast control oriented combustion model is under development. As a part of this development process a study of boundary conditions of the stable operating range is made. The purpose of this study is to define the method of defining the boundary of stable HCCI combustion and a method of its calculation. In this work the boundary of stable combustion is defined as the temperature necessary for achieving stable combustion. This temperature will depend on several other operating factors: mass fraction of fuel, mass fraction of CP, engine speed and pressure. In the paper the individual influences of each of these operating factors on the previously mentioned temperature are analysed. From this analysis a function for the calculation of this temperature is derived. By using this function it is possible to define threshold for stable combustion at each operating point within the range of operating conditions used in this analysis.
