Abstract

It is well known that the automotive industry runs with very tight schedules and decreasing development times. For testing experts this means shortening testing time while improving results quality and issues detection and analysis. CTAG has performed an R&D program focused on the development of NVH services for leading component providers for the automotive industry. The research program involved the whole testing cycle, from the vehicle to the test jig, and provided a method for the replication of the vibratory environment at the laboratory through multiaxis vibration. The developed method has applications in the detection of unwanted noises in traditional fuel powered cars, but is especially suitable for state-of-the-art hybrid and all-electric cars testing, as the perceived quality of these later is particularly influenced by S&R, due to their lower background noise. The results provide the background for the development of additional laboratory testing and analysis techniques, such as realistic vibration ageing and durability, or operating deflection shapes (ODS).
