Abstract
Physical based simulation models aim to support the engine development process from the early concept phase until the late calibration phase. This can be reached by applying real-time capable system engineering models. The present work introduces a fully coupled system level model and discusses the modeling approaches for the domains vehicle, engine and cooling. Special focus is put on the engine sub-domains, pollutant formation and exhaust aftertreatment which are also compared to experimental data. The impact of changed engine calibrations on NOx emissions is investigated for a passenger car diesel engine during a cold start simulation.
