Abstract

Content:

1. Introduction to Brushless Motors

2. Applications and Requirements

3. Brushless Motors as Appropriate Solutions

4. Summary and Conclusions

Introduction

The introduction of brushless motors is mainly considered in the context of different x-by-wire systems such as brake-, steer- and shift-by-wire. Other applications such as the main water pump and more traditional adjuster motor applications are also under consideration. Brushless motor technology will be introduced and the key characteristics and features will be described.

Applications and Requirements

Brake-by-wire, steer-by-wire, robotized gearboxes and other applications will be discussed. The specific requirements and drive factors for brushless motor technology will be highlighted.

Brushless Motors as Appropriate Solutions

One major task in the development process is to optimize the brushless motor technology to the specific application requirements using appropriate development tools. From the very beginning of the development phase, it is important to consider the use of standardized components, modules and production processes. It will be discussed how main motor properties can be adjusted e.g. power density, torque ripple, motor dynamic, safety features and others. Disadvantages and risks will also be explained.

Summary and Conclusions

After a short summary of the presentation future trends will be shown.
