Abstract

The paper describes a measurement system mounted in vehicles to register the linear and angular acceleration of the vehicle's body. It discusses methods implemented to process the signals, and examines the algorithms used to describe and reconstruct the vehicle's course. The device has been designed as an integrated module for measurement and reconstruction of a number of vehicle movement parameters, and is placed in a sturdy solid metal case so that it can be used as a so called black box, if necessary. The integrated acceleration sensors provide measurement of acceleration at three mutually perpendicular axes. Two systems of integrated gyroscopes positioned on the planes which are properly set in relation to the vehicle's body make it possible to measure the vehicle's angular velocity. Such a design makes it possible to continue measurements of vehicle's movement and registering the vehicle's trajectory even if the vehicle skids or overturns. In addition, the present work evaluates accuracy of measurement and possible inaccuracies while reconstructing a movement trajectory using the methods proposed. The project paper is substantiated with examples of reconstructed road events and a discussion of the results that were obtained.
