Abstract

Infrared Thermography is experiencing important growth in maintenance applications derived from its versatility, precision, and fast and reliable measurement. These reasons make this technique suitable for Reciprocating Thermal Engine diagnosis.

This paper presents the results of an experimental study of Infrared Thermography applications for detecting anomalies in Diesel engines, using the measurement of the surface temperature of the exhaust manifold. The final goal of this work is to test the ability of this technique to detect combustion and compression failures in Diesel engines.
