Abstract

Improvement of specific powers, economy and ecological characteristics of piston engines and motor vehicles requires to use new and better quality metallic materials including new technologies too.

The paper describes some results of the investigation of the mechanism of compounds creation (in particular oxides, nitrides, sulphides, etc.) on the surface of metallic materials. These compounds are created in the work parts of the car systems and engines as a consequence of mechanical and thermal strain. This couple of problems involves the study of chemical reactions of solid surfaces with the elements, which diffuse to the solid surfaces from the inside of the matter. The stability of the surface can be reached by segregation of the impurities or the alloyed elements in case of metallic materials. The negative consequence of that is the increasing of the fragility and decreasing of the corrosive resistance of construction materials.
