Abstract
Nowadays, the car sector is submitted to great competitive pressure, which leads to the obligation to appeal to a constant improvement in technology by means of the development of the existing products and the research in the field of new materials and processes to enhance the characteristics of the current products.
The study herewith detailed pursues, as its main goal, to present a new technology applicable to the design and production of components with structural function within the car sector, which brings about advantages such as a reduction of the weight, excellent mechanical performance, recycling properties and additional function integration in its production process. This technology, based on the combination of metallic and reinforcingn thermoplastic materials, gives as a result metal / plastic hybrid components with high performance and, therefore, competitive in a sector like ours, where evolution in the research of new products and trends is essential to satisfy the great enquiries of manufacturers.
