Abstract

In the Department of Internal Combustion Engines and Automobiles in Technical University of Radom, compression ignition engine has been modified to dual fuelling.

As a main fuel liquid petroleum gas (LPG) is used. The diesel fuel is used to initiate of combustion. Some investigation of standard diesel engine and modified one has been carried out.

Tests of the engines consisted of preparation of load characteristics for different ignition diesel fuel dose and different injection timing. To analyse the combustion process some histories of cylinder pressure was registered. These histories were used for estimation of some combustion parameters such as maximum cylinder pressure. All registered parameters of modified engine were compared with parameters of standard diesel engine.

Results of investigation shows that diesel engine may be fuelled with LPG, while diesel fuel dose is used only for ignition. The volume of ignition diesel oil dose and advance angle of the injection strongly influences combustion parameters as well as engine performance.
