Abstract

Shredder dust of disposed vehicles can be decomposed into low calorific flammable gas in pyrolysis gasification systems. The electric power generation using internal combustion engines fuelled with the decomposed gas is one of effective ways to ease the waste and energy issue. The shredder dust pyrolysis gases consist of mainly H 2 , CO, CO 2 and N 2 . Composition and heating value of the gas depend on conversion system and the sort of shredder dust. This research analyzed characteristics of combustion and exhaust emissions in a premixed combustion spark ignition engine fuelled with the shredder dust pyrolysis gas. Influences of heating value, CO/H 2 ratio and inert gas of the fuel were analyzed parametrically. Optical analysis of the combustion in a bottom view type optical access engine was also done in this research.
