Abstract

Keywords: combustion, diesel, biofuels

In the first part of the paper, is presented a mixture formation and combustion processes analyze from D.I. Diesel engines. After this, are described the main proprieties that the fuel and air-fuel mixture must have to obtain a good combustion. In order to study the combustion of these fuels, the authors made researches on D.I. Diesel engines. The characteristics of engines, tests conditions, equipments and techniques that were used have a detailed presentation.

After processing experimental data were formulated some interesting conclusions regarding the influence of the fuel characteristics on:
- Mixture quality;
- Self-ignition delay;
- Combustion timing;
- Exhaust emissions.

The conclusions are interesting, being accentuated the energetically and ecological limits of these types of fuels.
