Abstract

Key words: Diesel engine, inlet channel geometry, emissions

The influence of the inlet channel geometry modifications have impact to the swirl intensity. In combination with fuel injectors they influence the diesel engine characteristics. Swirl ratio value and inlet valve flow restriction factor were measured by using special testing device. Three various inlet channel geometries with various swirl intensity generation were tested and resulting engine characteristics were compared. Three various fuel injectors were tested together with various inlet channel geometries. For the selected tested combinations of inlet channel and fuel injector the NOx emissions were estimated by using numerical simulations based on two zone phenomenological model description and extended Zeldovich reaction kinetics.
