The bus structures dominantly are manufactured from hollow-sectioned square and rectangular tubes. The crashworthiness features of buses largely depend on the energy absorbing capability of these tubes not neglecting the importance of the enhanced formful design and the manufacturing technology. This paper shows real and simulated rollover tests using the bending tests´ results of bus segments and rectangular tubes made of different types of (tube)materials. The vehicle -mainly the automobile- industry, in the development process, expansively uses the virtual techniques. In spite of that the final qualification or approval procedure does not allow the exclusive usage of this kind of methods. (The European ECE R66 is the only passive safety vehicle regulation which allows the rollover safety checking of tourist buses this way.) For improving and checking the rollover safety, in which there are some important Hungarian achievements from the beginning, and special combined methods are existing. This paper tries to show some considerations for bus roll-over safety checking. Beside these some frame-strength increasing solutions are presented too.
