Abstract

Keywords: vehicle dynamics evaluation, identification, test methods

The objective evaluation of the dynamics and handling behaviour of automotive vehicles is an important task during their development. The evaluation serves for tuning the wheel suspension systems and particularly for the calibration of any active subsystems influencing the vehicle´s dynamics.

Presently applied procedures are based on either international standards or on companyspecific testing methods. Typically, these procedures are subsequently applied to the testing itself and the analyses are more or less time consuming. In particular, active components such as driver assistance systems are difficult to assess. In order to overcome these insufficiencies, a novel approach in identification of a vehicle´s dynamical properties is proposed. The objectives of the presented evaluation project are the following:

o The measurement methods should allow the reduction of the number of necessary testing manoeuvres and their simplification.

o The simplification of the subsequent evaluation process is aimed.

o Due to physical meaning of the identified parameters, target-orientated manoeuvres for influencing the dynamical behaviour should be available.

o In order to understand the dynamic effects, the method should be based on appropriate, simplified vehicle models instead of pure heuristic approaches.
