The quality and success of engineering design depends on the correct knowledge and interpreting of the laws of physics. Mathematics is an indispensable set of tools for this. Some decades ago mathematics presented us with the new field of chaotics. The rules of chaotic functions present deterministic as well as random characteristics. Remarcable developments have been achieved in this line e.g. in meteorology but automotive engineering seems to lag considerably behind in the practical applications of the new possibilities. The probable explanation for this is the dominantely deductive character of the procedures requiring the preliminary knowledge of the relative differential equation. The development of combined procedures for the analysis of the chaotic records seems to offer a key to this problem.

The development of chaotic calculation procedures not requiring the knowledge of the differential equations has started with adapting the flow turbulence integral scale L to road/terrain surface modeling, at first by intuition. Success in this line induced further work and resulted in full adaptation of the chaotic way of thinking. The present state of research on the complex evaluation of the chaotic field test records is as follows.
