Abstract

ABSTRACT

The ECOSONIC Concept –Car program running at the Department of Automotive and Engines has the main goal to link education and research. The paper presents experiences over the last two years on this project considering also the major trends on the local labor market for automotive engineers. Participating students have the possibility to develop system identification, innovative system design skills using virtual prototyping and experimental research. The research subject is an off road vehicle with alternative propulsion system based on dynamical phenomena in liquids. The vehicle based on the M461 structure is a simple, robust vehicle that allows a simple and quick overview on vehicle properties. The propulsion system based on dynamical phenomena is characterized by: high power density, conventional technology, and high innovative and system identification potential. The main educational aspects envisaged are: hands on experience in virtual prototyping, team working with individual responsibilities, data management, design for excellence, applying innovation and optimisation methods, system development, and best practice and engineering ethics.
