ABSTRACT
IAR Brasov Company manufactured between 1927 and 1944 eleven types of engines, out of which seven (the first ones) under licence: French licence – Lorraine-Dietrich and Gnome-Rhone, English licence – de Havilland and German licence – Mercedes Benz, and the other Romanian designed engines of exceptional performances: IAR-K9, IAR-1000, IAR-1500 and IAR-7M. Unfortunately the impressive results obtained by the engine manufacturers from Brasov are still not very well known; at the same time there is not made a rigorous technical comparison with similar engines manufactured in the world.
