ABSTRACT:
Because of their capability for transmitting motion and power, gears are among the most important of all mechanical components. The dimensional accuracy and surface finish required in gear teeth depend on the gear’s intended use. Poor gear quality contributes to inefficient energy transmission and noise and adversely affects the gear’s frictional and wear characteristics.
