ABSTRACT:
It is significant to study the traffic flow characteristics at signalized intersections, because the capacity of the intersection can be improved according to their characteristics. The study of traffic flow characteristics at signalized intersections is one of most effective and immediate measure to enhance the capacity of road networks and relieve congestion in cities. In this paper, the traffic flow characteristics of the typical signalized intersections located in Brasov are observed and analyzed. Some countermeasures for enhancing the capacities of the intersection are proposed including canalization of the traffic flow, drawing the traffic marking and line in the intersection; strengthening traffic safety education, improving traffic control methods, regulating pedestrians and bicycle flows and improving the safety facility and capacity at signalized intersections.
