Abstract

ABSTRACT:

In order to have a stable dynamic behavior of all wheel drive vehicles when cornering, the following have to be taken into consideration: speed, (over or under steering) cornering feature, size and direction of road - tire contact surface longitudinal forces and last but not least size of lateral deviation forces.

The research starts from the existence of traction forces at vehicle's axles; it will be used a cornering model of an all wheel drive vehicle equipped with a semi trailer. The modeling is performed for a real vehicle but also on a two-wheel hypothetic vehicle, its whole mass being concentrated on the external cornering wheels.

The paper will focus on the stability analysis of the wheel train in the case mentioned above: vehicle equipped with a semi trailer.

The connection between the two of them, the way the semi trailer acts on the traction forces distribution on the vehicle's axles are also taken into consideration.

It will be proposed an optimization of the connection between the semi trailer and the vehicle, taking into account the maximum stability criteria.

By generalizing, in the same way, the criteria of optimum connection between semi trailers and vehicles will be discussed in the paper.
