ABSTRACT:

The aim of new automatic transmissions for city-buses is to improve fuel economy, acceleration, quietness of operation and to reduce exhaust emissions.

For a given transmission, the value of a gear ratio that should be engaged is preferable to be chosen depending on the vehicle load, vehicle speed, air drag and rolling resistance, position and operating speed of accelerator pedal etc.

In this paper is presented the combinations of realizable gear ratios for a given transmission and the simulated control of the gear-shifting program for a city-bus.

The control and the simulation of the gear shifting program was developed using the AMESim simulation program.
