ABSTRACT:
The optimum control of gear selection in an automobile automatic transmission is made according to a multitude of variable parameters such as: vehicle speed, vehicle load, air drag and rolling resistance, position and operating speed of accelerator pedal, position of selector lever and engaged gear and other information about the status of the transmission. This implies a complex process of identification of motor-vehicle systems working conditions, traffic conditions as well as the driver's commands.
The control of gear selection is made upon the simulation of vehicle dynamics behavior for different traffic conditions.
The authors have used SIMULINK toolbox from MATLAB to simulate the engine, the transmission and the vehicle.
