Abstract

In this paper a mono-dimensional model of the lubrication circuit of a motorbike engine will be shown. The engine was designed and manufactured by Aprilia and it is the first Aprilia four strokes engine. It has a V based architecture and many advanced solutions (such as drive by wire). The model was performed by LMS AMESimÃ’ code, a monodimensional platform to analyze engineering solutions. The model building-up phase started with the engine designing. Several circuits lay-out configurations and different components (i.d. max pressure valve, oil pump) were analyzed. After the first prototype and the first experimental tests, the simulation model was accurately validated. Furthermore, some dedicated experimental tests were performed (i.d. oil pump, oil filter, etc) to improve the 1D model. In this work the results of the final model will be shown. After the build-up and validation phase, the numerical results of the final simulation model will be shown. Furthermore, all the lubrication model components will be analyzed and the procedure to model them will be validated. The goal of the authors is to demonstrate the validity and the applicability of a mono-dimensional code to the engine lubrication circuit, during, both the design and the development phases of a new engine.
