Abstract

In this work a novel electronic regulator applied to a Permanent Magnet Alternator (PMA ) for cars is presented. The novel regulator presents a resistive input impedance which minimizes the alternator RMS current. This feature reduces PMA load losses, increases its efficiency and makes smaller alternators possible. Experimental results on a laboratory prototype confirm these positive effects of changing the regulation strategy.
