Abstract

Abstract

Driveline design, i. e. the selection of the rear axle, transmission or engine, has a considerable influence on the performance of a bus, on its fuel consumption, and therefore also on its exhaust emissions. The data used for the design is of fundamental importance for the optimum, application-based customization of a driveline. A comparison of data collected from a number of applications in various parts of the world revealed that there are significant differences in traffic situations. The high variations in load spectra alone would make it impossible to simply transfer the experience gained in one region to another. Operating data which is accumulated in the control system of the automatic transmission is an excellent aid for optimizing the driveline, the daily application as well as the maintenance schedule of a vehicle – individually tailored to its actual usage and specific operating conditions.
