Abstract
The 3D vehicle dynamics display system combines the output from the mathematical model of a road vehicle, the database of vehicle data and the virtual 3D display subsystem. Together with a mathematical model of driving surface the system can be used to analyse vehicle behaviour under different road conditions and under different driving regimes. The system can read vehicle handling parameters from a hardware input device and thus act as an interactive driving simulator, usable for training vehicle operators. The results of simulations are available as interactive animations in virtual 3D environment as well as tables and charts and can be directly compared to measured data and recorded vehicle motion. The system is supported by a growing library of low- to mid-polygon count 3D geometrical models of common road vehicles that can be used in trace and visibility analyses in traffic accident research. The system can be used to prepare presentations of vehicle dynamics for various different purposes that range from interactive live animations for courtroom presentations to descriptive imagery in printed publications.
