In operation of automobiles fluid flows play a determining role in many respects. Investigations in field of fluid mechanics are carried out by the automotive industry since decades with the aim of enhancing fuel economy, performance, safety and pollution control, or just rationalizing technical solutions. However, in the past years, the sharpened market competition as well as the rapid development of fluid mechanics methods has increasingly highlighted the importance of application of up to date fluid mechanics methods in order to improve competitiveness. The use of advanced numerical simulation codes in R+D of automotive industry is shown in this paper through introduction of few examples.
