Abstract

Abstract

For decades now, and in some cases with a rising trend, enormous passenger volumes have been transported by buses. In several countries the bus – for want of other transport infrastructures – forms the backbone of transport and mobility as such. It is well known that the safety level of bus transport is generally high, but because of isolated but spectacular bus accidents this means of transport again and again comes in for public criticism. These accidents are most often due to human error. It goes without saying that we are confronted with a permanent challenge to improve the safety of buses in all relevant aspects of their operation. The task of bus developers and manufacturers is to further optimise the aspects of safety that can be influenced by technical means and to give the driver a vehicle that, by virtue of its optimum operability, controllability and fatigue-free design, helps to prevent accidents. The development of the new Starliner2 took into account all safety features possible from today's perspective and integrated them in the vehicle. The following report describes this.
