Abstract

Abstract

Vehicle Development Institute, the first organization to specialize exclusively in researching and developing vehicles was established in February 1950 and most of the activities focused on developing vehicles for military use in the first two decades after foundation due to the then prevailing conditions of cold war. In the early 1970s, our testing business received major momentum and it complemented design work to bring the development of commercial vehicles and components for civil application into focus. The number of testing laboratories showed spectacular increase and the scope of our operations expanded. New equipment was constructed to support the development of vehicles for public roads. Fatigue tester units, hydraulic pulsators, pendulum and linear impact tester units and the drive line test bench played a key role in designing several new bus types, such as the Ikarus 200, 300 and 400 series their new variants.
